Custody of Granddaughter

My grandaughter is living with my wife and myself.Her father is in prison and we do not know where her mother is.What will I need to get custody of her, so that I can get insurance on her? Is there any government agencies that can help?

Talk to the Department of Family and Childrens Services. They may be able to help you bring an action to terminate the parents rights. You could then adopt the child. The other option is to hire an attorney to bring a guardianship proceeding.
