Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
My daughter is 9 years-old and her bio father provides nothing for her and never has on a regular basis. We were never married, but I have been married to my wonderful husband since she was 10 months old. He has always been there for her and would like to adopt her. Our home of record is Georgia, but we are stationed in Japan. What can we do to have him adopt her? The bio father NEVER legitimated her, and at the present time I do not know his whereabouts, where he works, telephone number or anything. As I said he does nothing and I want my great husband to adopt her. Advice?

Get a good adoption attorney in Georgia. You can't do anything until that happens. You likely will have to make some time to come to Georgia to file and attend court.
You will need to speak to a family law attorney who does adoptions in order to discuss the procedure for filing a Stepparent Adoption and terminating the biological father's rights. Based on what you are saying, there shouldn't be a problem. You and your husband would need to be in Georgia for the final hearing.
