Debt While Separated
My wife's best friend (in Georgia) is separated from her husband (not legally) and lives separately in her own town home. Is she legally responsible for debts that are being or have occurred during this period of separation? Can she assume that the only debts she would be responsible for are those that are contracted jointly in his and her name?
Secondly, she and he have an existing will that was prepared before the couple separated. Can she simply have her ''own'' new will prepared and be assured that it will supersede the existing joint will and thereby designate any possession to her rather than sharing as outlined in the original will?

She badly needs to see a lawyer right away. Joint wills are always a horrible idea and she has complex legal matters that she needs to address.

She will only be responsible for debts she agreed to pay.
She can do a new will, superceding the old one.
