Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Definition of ''otherwise emancipated'' under Georgia law.
My 17 year old son signed himself out of public school in Fayette County ,
Georgia, this month. He has been accepted at a post secondary school in N.C.,
and is seeking a GED from Griffin Tech. He is currently, still living with his
mother. My question is, does this constitute ''emancipation'' under Georgia law,
thereby ending my requirement to continue to pay child support to my ex-wife?

No. Emancipation is a legal term that requires a court order. Most divorce decrees in Texas, however, state that you must pay child support as long as he in high school or 18, whichever happens last. In this case, high school is no longer an issue, and you must pay only until he turns 18. Some decrees have modified language however, and you should read the specific terms of your decree. TCL
