Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Desperate Father
My girlfriend and I have been living together in my parents home for almost two years. We have a one year old son. Tuesday she came home with the police and took her belongings and my baby and left. I have not heard from her since. Is there anything I can do legally. I'm so worried about my baby. Her Mother won't tell me anything and keeps insisting that the baby doesn't belong to me. I don't believe that. I just want to know that my child is safe and of cousrse I want him back in my life. Help me please.

Re: Desperate Father
If you and the mother were not married when the child was born, and you are not listed on the birth certificate as the father, you would have to file a legitimation action with the court in order for your legal rights as a father to be recognized. Then you could sue for custody, visitation, etc. Before then, you have no right to the child legally.
