Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

divorce ageement

The divorce is not final; no court date. Husband is planning to accept a new job in another state, threatening to try to declare wife unfit mother, threatening to change terms of div agreement re responsibility for debt and alimony, etc. Wife has MS, is unable to work, and has minimum resources, Consultations with her lawyer are costly. Any advice?

Re: divorce ageement

Losing what you may gain if you get legal representation will probably be more costly than hiring an attorney. Most individuals end up in far worse circumstances because they do not invest in hiring a lawyer to protect them from being taken advantage of. The judge cannot favor either side in a dispute; hence, he/she cannot represent the party who shows up without a lawyer. While there are no absolute guarantees, you may be able to recover some of your attorney fees as part of the final judgment.

Expensive as attorneys may be, if you don't have advice of counsel, you may create irreparable damage to your case.
