Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

divorce agreements

Is my ex legally responsible? What's the best way to find him? Can I sue him? My husband and I divorced three years ago. In our divorce agreement we divided our debts. One of the debts he agreed to pay was in my name (he had bad credit). I just found out he has not paid anything against the debt which is a 3,000 dollar debt. He's in the military. Does the divorce agreement that he signed legally make him responsible or am I screwed?

Re: divorce agreements

yes he is responsible but you will need to file a contempt action against him for violating the court order. If he is in the military, they have a method of locating him and it is possible that his wages could be garnished to pay the debt. You need to speak to an attorney.

The first thing you need to know is this: If you signed it, you are legally responsible. The second thing you need know is that he can be held accountable for all of your costs, INCLUDING YOUR ATTORNEYS FEES AND OTHER COSTS. Please call me if you wish to discuss this further.
