Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Can a divorce be granted before the peremptory date. I received a notice on June 25, 2011 that I was placed on the peremptory calendar for July 25, 2011 regarding a divorce. I then recieved final judgement and decree in the mail two days later on June 27, 2011. My spouse and I are in marriage counseling and my plan was to dismiss the case before my trial date. Is this official?

A peremtory calendar is simply a calendar where a court dismisses cases that have not previously been ruled on. Most cases placed on such a calendar have been abandoned for a while, but, if one party seeks a judgment before that date, many courts grant it if the case is ripe to be heard.

I assume that you had a lawyer as it would have been foolish not to have one. If you didn't that explains things, as you did not know how to handle your case. Your plan was meaningless unless both sides agreed to it and advised the court.
