Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

divorce without a lawyer

My wife and I have been legally separated since 2000, but never finalized the divorce. I don't know where she is and would prefer not to find her so how do I do it myself? I got one of those do it yourself divorce packets, but which ones do I need to fill out? No kids, property, anything.

Re: divorce without a lawyer

Attorneys do not know what forms come in "do it yourself" packages; however, most self-help materials are designed to be used by individuals where both people are available to speak with the court. Legal procedures in instances like yours are the key to success and they are the lawyers stock and trade. You should consider employing a lawyer to get matters underway for you. You may call my firm if you want to discuss this further.

First of all, given the minimal cost of a lawyer, it's foolish to try without one.

Second, if you do not wish to attempt to find her, you are ineligible to get divorced in Georgia. The law requires a dilligent search.
