Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
My divorce options - for minimal amount of money
I cannot afford an expensive divorce. The least contested divorce in the metro Atlanta area that I've come up with is $1500. I have two sons, one is 13. We only have a house and furniture together. My husband wants the house and son. I have lead a life of turmoil from mental abuse to adultery. He has no grounds against me except that I left home. He kept the children to "give me a chance to get on my feet."
Now he plans to use it against me in court.
What are my options?

It sounds like there will be fight for custody. If so, these battles can be quite expensive, usually 10,000 dollars or more. Remeber that you get what you pay for, and that if you want to put up a good fight, it will cost you some money. If your spouse makes considerably more money than you, you may be able to get the court to order him to pay some of your fees.

Although you left home, it is not definitive that your husband will receive the children. The court will look to the reasons that you left, and definitively towards the best intrest of the children.
In Georgia, a child of 14 years of age or older can choose who he wants to live with. So, since your son is 13, I'm sure the court will greatly consider his wants.
Also, if the house was brought during the marriage, the court will divide it equitably with its discretion.
