Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Divorce Proceedings

How long will it take to serve my husband with divorce papers in GA.? How long will the process take from beginning to finish? What can I be doing to get the process rolling? What is the total cost if we can agree on division of property? What part do you play if we can't agree?

Re: Divorce Proceedings

You ask questions for which the answers are highly variable. Moreover, it would be inappropriate to discuss your particular situation in a non-confidential forum. Attorneys cannot change local court practices; however, they can keep things moving and effect results, especially where you have not been able to gain consent of your spouse. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the event that you wish to discuss obtaining representation.

Re: Divorce Proceedings

Serving papers only happens in contested cases, and is what you should avoid if an agreement is possible. Uncontested cases can take as little as 31 days. Contested cases can last many months or even years. You have posted very little information so your question is unanswerable. Your first step is to call a lawyer. Costs and time and procedure vary by county, whether you have children, assets, incomes, and many other factors. Uncontested divorces in some counties, if simple, can be a few hundred dollars or less. COntested cases, at best, are measured in thousands of dollars.
