Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

divorce

My wife and I are both deployed and getting divorced. Do I legally have to wait for her to get home before I open the storage shed and collect my belongings? We have a divorce contract specifying who gets what. We're subject to UCMJ and not local Georgia law. Thanks.

Re: divorce

You badly need a lawyer. There is no such thing as a divorce subject to military law. If you are both from Georgia, Georgia law governs. Discuss what you can and can't do and when you can with your lawyer.

(There is also no such thing as a "divorce contract." If a divorce is uncontested, at the time of filing, or after, the parties can file a proposed settlement agreement, which, if approved by the judge, becomes part of the final judgment.)
