Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
My ex and I divorced in 2005 after 25 years of marriage. He was ordered to pay spousal support to me for a total of 7 years, (the support amount is reduced in years 6 & 7). This was mediated and agreed upon and the divorce decree says neither party can modify the support.
He only paid for 3 years and suddenly stopped paying. I've had to take 2nd job, file chap 7 bankruptcy, and our daughter has had to move home and work as I am unable to continue to pay her college expenses. We divorced in Georgia, my daughter and I still live in Georgia. He recently moved to North Carolina. I am broke and can't find legal assistance for recovering spousal support in Georgia.
What is the most economical way I can pursue contempt of court charges against my ex? Also, he has just begun receiving social security benefits. Can his ss benefits be garnished for payment of the spousal support he owes? Lastly, where do I need to file the charges, the county of divorce?
Thank you, Gamom

Since he left the state, why not hire a colllections lawyer where he is and pay a percentage of any recovery ?
