Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Durable POA
My stepdaughter lives in North Carolina. Her mother is in a home there. Her mother is not of sound mind to sign a Durable Power Of Attorney paper, to take care of any and all of her transsactions for her care or financial benefits. For Medicaid, or whatever else she has. She thinks she would have to go to court to be appointed for this. But she worries that by being appointed to do this will make her liable and responsible for her debits. I do not know the laws in that state, so I have no way of knowing what to tell her. I said I would send her any information about Medicaid and Powder Of Attoeney things I could fine. As she does not have a computer to look things up. Could you give me some kind of information that might help her. I would appreciate it very much. I do not mind if you post my question, as long as my name is not used. Thank you, Jean

Re: Durable POA
Since the mother is in NC, she should consult with an NC attorney with an eye toward guardianship.
