Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Emancipation of child

According to my divorce papers my youngest son is to be emancipated after five years of post secondary education. He started college in Sept. of 1998. He called and told me he would not graduate until Dec. of 2003. This is three months past the five year period. Am I required to pay the child support for the additional months? Do I need a lawyer to step in?

Re: Emancipation of child

Consult with a local attorney, but why not pay the additional costs? You may not be liable but what is the total cost vs. telling your son you won't be paying for his education?

Having said all that, you are not obligated to pay beyond what is REQUIRED by the decree.
