Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Emancipation of a minor

My ex-step-sister (my dad is no longer married to her mom) is 16 and in a rough situation at home with her mom. Her mom is demoralizing towards her and the other kids often yelling that they are stupid and using inappropriate language to describe them. She often tells them that they can't do anything right. She is also getting ready to have her married boyfriend move in. The kids father is even worse and doesn't want the kids anyway. I know there isn't anything I can do for the other 2 kids because they are younger but I thought I might be able to at least get the 16 year old out of there. If she gets her GED and has a job and car can she get emancipated and move in with me? I am stable, own my condo and car, pay my bills on time and have had a full-time job for the last 4 years as well as a business that I run on the side and no married boyfriend so the morals and responsability example would be better not to mention the lack of demoralizing attitude and statements. What process should we go through? How long will it take? Who should we contact? What do we need for proof of poor home conditions? Is this realistic or a waste of time and money since she only has 1 1/2 years until she can leave anyway?

Re: Emancipation of a minor

You could apply to the probate court in the county of her residence to be appointed as her guardian. Consult with an attorney in that county familiar with guardianships.
