Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Need to establish paternity
I was envolved in a non-monagomous relationship twelve years ago. I was told that the child was mine. I accepted responsiblity and provided for the child emotionally and financially for three years. My name was not listed on the birth certificate. The mother then removed the child from my life, got married and cut off all contact. I searched for her, to no avail. I have recently found her. She still wants nothing to do with me and does not want to let me see the child.
My question is 1) Can I force her to establish paternity if she is reluctant to do so? 2) If I do not pursue establishing paternity, is there anyway to legally protect myself from future paternity issues if she suddenly decides that she wants to establish paternity?

Re: Need to establish paternity
Without knowing more details there's no way to fully answer you, but you may be able to file a petition to legitimate. (You can't stop her from pursuing paternity at any time she chooses). We'd have to talk to you further to know your options.
