Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

My ex-husband abandoned his family 11 years ago because of drugs and has never paid child support. I filed for child support when I heard he was working. My family has helped me in every way to support my children. Why does my mother's income have to do with my ex paying child support? I am presently unemployed and living with my family. Thanks.

Child support is based on your income and the ex-husband's income. However, if you receive benefits from your family (free rent, etc.) this might be factored in to determine what your support obligation would be. Otherwise, its not relevant.
