Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Hello. My ex-wife, who lives in GA, applied for an arrest warrant for me because I haven't been able to pay child support. I wrote to the court explaining that I've been unemployed but I've just started a new job. I also attached a copy of a receipt for the first payment I've been able to make since starting this job. I also apologized for not appearing due to living in FL and having to work. The judge issued an arrest warrant anyway under the charge of abandonment. I submitted myself to local police, but my state (FL) doesn't extradite and GA police won't come here for me either. I had originally planned to move to GA to be more involved in my children's lives, but now there's a warrant for my arrest. Is there an expiration date for the warrant or any way to erase it? Please help.

Sincerely,

Mr. Edwards

The warrant lasts forever, and there is a possibility of extradition IF Georgia makes a request. Even if they don't, if you are in a minor traffic stop, you probably will be arrested an held for days while police check out if an extradition is being filed, so take this very seriously! Writinmg a letter to the Judge was improper and it should have been ignored, as you CANNOT do an ex parte communication with the judge without the other party also being involved. Since you are now working, you should be able to borrow money. Gather up enough to pay the support and warrant fees and a Georgia lawyer, and you can likely coordinate a surrender where you are almost immediately released. That lawyer can then help you with visitation. Do all this right away.
