Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Family Law
My husband found out he has another child in Georgia. We live in Iowa and he also has a daughter in Minnesota. The child in Minnesota is 4 hours from us and we get to see her about every three months and are working on getting her every other holiday and in the summer. The child that is in Georgia we will not be able to see because finacially and time wise at our jobs. The mother in the beginning when found out she was pregnant said that he had to move to Georgia and give up his other child and only be with her. She doesn't want him to see the child just pay child support. We are newly married and I have a child that whenever her father feels like paying support then I get it. So he and I mostly he because he thinks it would be better for the child that he sign away his rights. Now if he does this will he still have to pay child support? Right now we are finacially unstable and can not afford to or will lose everything we have because of this other child support payment. Wondering what we can do? Thanks...Genelle

Re: Family Law
A man cannot father children and then refuse to support them, and he can't sign away child support. Whether or not he chooses to seek visitation, he must support his child. A failure to do so is a crime and can (and should) result in him going to jail for abandonment.

I concur with my colleague Mr. Ashman.
