Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

If the father of my child has not been in her life & I'm assuming/hoping he will continue to stay out. Can I get him for desertion/abandonment of our child even if we were never married?

You can certainly go after him for child support. Be aware that when you do his interest in custody or visitation may possibly increase.

If you are the one who does not want him involved, why would you want to "get him?" If you want child support for your child, which is perfectly fine, then he may want visitation with his child, which is also perfectly fine. If you just want to "get him" for whatever, don't waste the time of a court and judge.
