What are the advantages and disadvantages of submitting a financial affidavit during a dissolution of marriage proceeding?

It's not a choice.

One is required in every divorce in which children, alimony or equitable division of property is involved.

Different courts address that third issue (division) differently, so the answer then varies by court.

If the court in your area does not require you to submit one (and a lot of courts do), the only reason to file one is to show your good faith in coming forward with your financial standing. Consult with a local attorney to review your situation. Whatever you do, DON'T LIE. Paper trails can kill you.
