How would I find out?
My husband and I live in different states. I moved from Georgia to Illinois 2 years ago. We have had no contact. How could I find out whether or not he has filed for divorce, if so, how do I obtain a copy of the decree?

The divorce forms in Georgia can be obtained at very little cost or no cost. If you do not know the whereabouts of your spouse, then the divorce can be obtained in your state of residence. Please contact my office immediately for more consultation on this issue.

If you know each and every county in which he has lived in GA since you moved away (and if he has moved multiple times, you may need to hire a P.I.), you (or someone for you) can simply contact the Clerk of the Superior Court in each of thoses counties. If a filing is found, you can call the clerk; they will send it to you, but they may charge you a couple of bucks.

Call the circuit court clerk for the county wherein you believe he filed (usually would be where he lives). They will inform you whether there has been any filing and, if so, what the outcome was.
