Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
I am a foster-to-adopt parent in Georgia. My spouse and I have cared for our foster child since he was ten days old. His birth parents were not married when he was born. A paternity test proved that the man in question was the child's biological father. When the birth/biological father went to court, the judge denied his request for legitimation. A petition has been filed to terminate the birth mother's parental rights as of this week. Birth mom has had rights involuntarily terminated on eight of the child's siblings. Now the birth parents have gotten married. Does this change the status of the child's legitimation if the judge has already denied it once before? Also, how long does the process take to have rights terminated once the petition has been filed and submitted to the courts?
Thank you,
A concerned foster parent
