Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

I want to get full custody for my son. The father of my child is in prison for armed robbery. He will be release and deported to Central America in a couple of months. I'm doing this for the reason that i don't want to be looking for him in order to make important decisions about my son. Woud i need to hire a Attorney?
