Grandparents receiving child support

My friend is on social security disabillity, should she still pay child support for her child that her mother is now raising? The child is receiving disabillity, child support from his father and child support from the mother. as well. My friend has a daughter in her custody(9yrs old), together with the daughters child support from her father and her disabillity is 812.00 per month. The state has garnished her ssi check for child support for the other child, she now receives 232.00 per month which is not enogh to pay rent, utilities and food for the one in her care. Now child protective services is stepping in because she cannot provide for the child in custody. What can she do? The grand-parents she pay child support to is more than able to support the child. Altogether, they are receiving almost 2000.00 per month for the child. Please help! I'm afraid she will lose her daughter as well.

Your friend needs help from an attonrey to petition to terminate the child support garnishment. Will her parents support her need to terminate child support? Every metroplex has a bar association and low-cost/no-cost legal service. If your friend is near a law school, most of them have clinics where they assist low-income people with situations like this. If none of this is available, she should go to the law library and search for a petition to terminate support, and an order to terminate support. It is hard, but she may be able to do it herself. She can also file the petition as an indigent. Know, however, that courts are very reluctanct to not force a parent to support a child. TCL
