Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

My husband and I got married in Costa Rica in May of 2009. The attorney that performed the marriage assured us that it was legal, and I have been able to find our certification on their court web site. I cannot, however get these people to send me my certificate. I called the courthouse in Georgia to ask if we could just get married here, but I was told no because we were already married. Is this true? What does it matter if you marry the same person twice. Also, if I cannot even get my own records, would anyone ever even find out? If this is the case, how would we get divorced if I cannot get proof of marriage. I just want to get on with my life. This is impossible.

Thank you.

If you get married again, you would have to perjure yourself, a felony, to seek the license. Call a lawyer in Costa Rica to get your paperwork.
