Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Leaving my home
Me and my children are in an abusive situation, my husband is an alcoholic. He is starting to become emotionally and verbally abusive to the children. I have found a place to rent. If I leave my home we own together will I be able to get money from the sale still or will I forfeit my rights if I leave? And will I till be able to apply for child support? I am trying to leave the home without him knowing. He has threaten us in the past and destroyed my things. I don't want to stay here any longer but I don't want to lose money I know I will need for my kids.

Re: Leaving my home
Moving out of an abusive situation does not impact your chance of getting child support or your other rights, such as your right to a share of the house. You should consult with a local attorney.
