Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

legal age of children

Has the legal age for child for child support to end still 18 yrs old? My wages are being guarnished, how or who do I contact to get child support lowered when on child becomes of age? My final divorce decree states that it is to go to 1/2 when one child reaches legal age, can that be over ruled?, or is that a solid amount to what I am currently paying now, or can they figure a different percentage I have to pay?

The terms of your divorce decree govern your obligations until such time as either you or your ex-spouse petition the court for some form of modification. If the order provides for a 50% reduction when the oldest reaches 18, that's what should happen, and it may be that you simply need to provide a copy of the order to the Child Support Recovery unit responsible for collecting your payments. Are you behind on previous child support?
