Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Legal Name Change After Marriage

Hello, I am getting married and plan to take my husband's surname. When I do this, I would like to change my middle name from the given name to the nickname I am known by to friends, family, and colleagues. The result would be first - new middle - new last. Can I just put my ''desired'' new name on the marriage license and then petition the court? Will this be a difficult or lengthy process? Should I even try to do this when I get married? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Legal Name Change After Marriage

Name changes are done in Superior Court. The process is fairly simple and my office handles them inexpensively. Call me for details.
