Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Legal separation

My wife and I have been separated since June of 1999. We have not done anything except that since the separation we both maintain separate homes.

Is this considered a legal separation in the State of Georgia? I am trying to figure out if I can use a status of 'single' on my income taxes.

Re: Legal separation

You need to speak to a tax accountant. I beleive you have to file married living separate but I am no tax lawyer.

If your legal status was married as of 12/31/99 then you have some options. I think you need some tax specialty advice. Please feel free to contact me.
