Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

How do I become legally separated?

I typed my own Separation and Settlement Agreement, Suit for Divorce, and Final Decree. I had to cancel my divorce because I would not be covered on my husband's insurance. Neither one of us can afford to pay for medical coverage outside of his company. What do I have to do to be considered legally separated? Do I have to file another type of paper? If so, what kind? Can his insurance drop me if we become legally separated?

Re: How do I become legally separated?

You can file an action for separate maintainence. It is everything except for a final divorce. Read the insurance policy, but generally you will not be dropped. Even if divorced, most insurance policies allow you to remain covered under COBRA for up to 18 months after divorce.
