legitimation

can i file a legitimation petition myself? i have seen various forms for this online, yet when i talk to lawyers they seem more interested in scaring me into hiring them, than understanding my financial situation. i dont make/have much money, and need to do this as cheaply as possible. i may be able to afford an attorney to go further for a custody battle, but if legitimation can be done myself, i would like to do that. i am in the state of georgia.

It is very difficult to do a legitimization case without counsel, and things will tend to not go as well for you. Given the importance of your child, I wouldn't risk that.
