Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Hi,

I live in Canada and my soon to be ex lives in Atlanta, GA.. Ieft ATL with our now 7 year old daughter almost 4 years ago (2007). Since we left the father has only seen his daughter maybe 6 times, as of Sept 2009 he completely stopped paying me child support (we only had an informal agreement written between the two of us), he has not seen his daughter since July 2009, and very very seldom calls her (2x now in the last 4 months) . I am currently proceeding with the divorce and wanted to know what my chances are for getting sole custody. The case is being done in GA and I do have a GA lawyer but I feel as if he's working for my ex and not me. As well, I wanted to know what my chances are to have my legal fees paid by my ext. Over the years I have asked to try and settle it ourselves and tried to get child support but my ext refuses to pay me anything and told me I would have to take him to court to get that because he wasn't going to give me a dime. Should I just get a new lawyer.?

Since you have said nothing specific about your lawyer, but have indicated yoiu are married to a deadbeat jerk, it is very likely that your expectations are unrealistic. The fact you gave not a single thing that your lawyer did wrong tends to say your lawyer is fine but we have no way to know. You can pay a lawyer for an hour of time to review your case file and give a second opinion, as there is no way to respond without seeing it and having details.

You really need to think about your question. Why on earth would you think that it is a good idea to ask on an anonymous internet forum, based on a couple of sentences, whether your lawyer is doing a good job or should you get a new one?
