Live with relationship

I have been living with someone for over 10 years and he has decided to kick me out by selling his house and letting them put me out do I have any legal standing in this situation? Is there anything I can do?

Re: Live with relationship

You MAY have a common law marriage. However, it depends on the facts. For example, did you hold your selves out as husband and wife? The bottom line is that I can't answer in this type of forum because all of the facts need to be examined. You should consult with a local attorney because you may very well have rights.

You MAY have a common law marriage. If the common law marriage was established in Georgia before January 1, 1997 or was legally established in a state that still recognizes common law marriages then you would have rights as a spouse and could file a divorce and seek relief. Some things that would evidence a common law marriage - filing joint tax returns, telling people you were married, and the like. If you were not common law married, Georgia provides almost no relief as per the case of Rehak v. Mathis, which says tough luck in most such cases. See a lawyer ASAP to determine if you are married.
