Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Marital equity

My husband of 2 years is a non tax paying drunk that doesn't help with the bills, I am a homeowner . He has built additions onto my home...I paid for all materials...he only put in his labor and he has done ALOT. He does NOT help with any Household finances...I even pay his auto insurance. Does this give him any rights to my home.or to alimony from me..the house is still in mine and my ex husbands name, with me having a quick claim deed.

Re: Marital equity

First, unless there is some compelling reason not to do so, file the "quitclaim" deed.

As to your question about alimony and division of property (I am assuming you have filed or are about file for divorce) it is impossible to give you a dependable answer in this format because what is needed is a detailed investigation into your and his financial situations. E.g., alimony to him is not out of the question if your and his financial situations would indicate that alimony to him would be fair. If you and he cannot agree on these matters, they will be decided by a judge or jury. The only formula provided by the law is "What is fair and equitable under the circumstances?" Consult a reputable family law attorney in your area.
