Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
marriage
If you marrie a stage 4 colon cancer patient what would you need to protect yourself from his bills.
I have owned the house for 6 years and we've only been together for 1 years. He was diagnoised 5 months ago.
How can I protect myself?

Re: marriage
If you have assets and are considering marriage, you should consult with a law firm that is experienced in pre-nuptial agreements.
Please feel free to call my firm if you are not already working with someone.
Re: marriage
A pre-nuptial agreement is NOT generally to protect you from outside creditors. Generally, you are not responsible for someone else's debts, even if it is a spouse. However, your joint property may be at risk. The easiest way one generally protects themselves is to maintain separate accounts, and separate property (ie, the house).
Re: marriage
I'm not clear from your post if you're already married or planning to marry. That affects the answer.
It would be a very good idea to consult with a lawyer to be sure all your (and his) paperwork is in order so that you are protected. My office could assist with this.
