Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Marrying someone with back debt to child support (in GA)
I am engaed to marry a man with back debt owed to child support. We live in GA and the balance is in GA Child Support. I understand that I can file my taxes seperately. I read something that child support could possibly put a lean on the house once we are married even though it is in my name. I am wondering what else I need to watch out for. Our bank accounts, cars, utilities, house, everything are in my name.
I tried calling a lawyer, but he wanted to lecture me on the irresponsible path my fiance had taken and did not help. I know all sides of the story of my fiance's path and I am not going to hold it against him. He has been paying regularly since we met and he has a great relationship with his children.
Please help... I am nervous that child support could clean me out.

Re: Marrying someone with back debt to child support (in GA)
You should, at a minimum:
(1) have a lawyer do a proper prenuptial agreement
and
(2) never do anything jointly with him (no joint bank accounts, taxes, real estate, loans, etc.)
My office handles prenuptial agreements.
There may be additional steps to take after a detailed interview.
