Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

modification of alimony support

My ex-wife and I have agreed to a reduction in the monthly alimony amount. Can I draw up an agreement myself? Will it be legal? Do I have to file it with the court? If so, what do I file? Do I need an attorney or can I do it myself? Is there a standard georgia form that I need to use?

Re: modification of alimony support

A change in a court order can only be done by court order. If both parties are agreeable and a lawyer is used, some counties will grant it without a hearing, which holds the costs down. There is no standard form for this. The pleadings must be drawn based on language that is unique to your case. If our office can assist you, please contact us.
