Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Nanny cam\home privacy question
Is it illegal to set up hidden cameras in you own house and not let anyone living under your roof know about it? The cameras would be in the non-private areas (living & dining rooms, kitchen, etc). The owner of the house allowed her son and his wife to move back in. They were evicted from their own house. After seeing the condition the house was left in (the grandmother was in tears when she saw the living conditions), and knowing the wife (who stays home with the children alone) and her mental state, thought it would be in the best interest of the children to see what happens during the day. The oldest child has in the past (before they moved in our house) told us of verbal abuse by the mother towards all three children - and at later dates has been afraid to talk to us because her mother punished her for telling us anything. The grandmother of the children has expressed worry about the children's futures - and would like to know options in trying to get custody of the children if the parent's don't get their acts straight. We have pictures of the previous residence, and were wondering about photo and audio and/or video recording options and the legallity of them, and what would be allowed in a custody trial if it came to that.

Based on the circumstances that you describe, it would be worthwhile to start working with an attorney, whom you employ, to plan a strategy that can be utilized, if need be.
