Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
Non-supportive parent custody right
I'm a single mother of a five year old of whom's father has never supported her. She lives with him when i'm out of town because i'm a flight attendant and he said that he would help me out. Now he is saying that he is going to try and take custody of my daughter. Is it possible for a man who hasn't done anything for a child to get custody just because she's been living with him the last four months? This was only supposed to be temporary until my schedule was more accomodating. If I have to quit my job to keep my daughter, i will.

Re: Non-supportive parent custody right
You said two opposite things in your post. You say he has not supported his child, yet you say the child has lived with him for four months, and also that he takes care of the child when you can't. That is supporting the child, and may raise an issue as to what you paid him when he had the child.
Having said that, you do not have a problem at this time. You're responding to a non-existent case. Until and unless he files a case, there is no case to respond to.
