Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

nursing home debt

My mother died last March (2007). I had power of attorney regarding her finances, but by the time she died she had no assets at all other than about $4000 at Edward Jones, and that went to pay for the funeral. The nursing home continues to send me bills for an outstanding $800; am I responsible for this debt?

None of the facts in your question allow us to answer you.

You are liable IF you signed certain documents and are not if you didn't. Get a lawyer to review your paperwork.

Re: nursing home debt

As stated, there are insufficient facts, but you could also be liable if you (or someone else) improperly took or spent her funds without paying her creditors, including the nursing home. That possibly could include using the funds for funeral expenses before paying the nursing home.
