Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
How do I go about obtaining custody of my sister's unborn child? She has been taking illegal drugs, and abusing prescription drugs, and is on a medication to prevent withdrawals from heroin that may also put the baby into withdrawals when he/she is born. She is 21 years old, the father wants nothing to do with her, is a long term drug addict, and is living in my parents house, with a part time job that will not provide enough to take care of the baby. I cannot let her leave the hospital with this child as she has been diagnosed with borderline personality, and is in a state of drug-induced psychosis. I am 20 years old, have a full time, stable job with my same-sex partner, and my own two bedroom house. I need to know if I have any standing on this, and if so, how do I go about getting this in motion?

There is no way to seek custody of an unborn child. Once the child is born, your options remain minimal. A parent's rights are not easily removed, but once the child is born, you could either report the mother to DFCS (the problem is that they can place the child where they wish) or see a lawyer to determine if you may have other options (but there simply is no easy route).
