Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
I had an open CPS case in Georgia from 1999-2000. CPS took custody of my children due to criminal charges. After a long battle with CPS trying to get my kids back, I was forced to give them up for adoption. I was barely 19 years old when this happened, and looking back my attorney wasn't really working for me. Anyway, they are now adults. The youngest who was just 2 years old when she was adopted has been told I abused her and that was why I lost custody. The only way she will see me is if I can get the records to prove to her that that was not the reason CPS was involved. I have called the Department of Family and Children Services various times. I left them message after message, but nobody calls me back. How do I go about getting my records?

DHS will provide assistance in establishing contact, provided the adopted child is over the age of 21 years. There are no exceptions to the rules and you will not be assisted if the children refuse or if you do not follow procedure.
