Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Does he have any parental rights?

I have a son from an unwed relationship, who is 5. For the entirety of his life, I have been his sole provider. I have had no contact with the biological father for the last 4 years. He has made no child support and I have not asked for any. His name is on the birth certificate, but my son does not have his last name. What, if any rights, does he have to custody, visitation, etc?

Re: Does he have any parental rights?

If the child was born in Georgia out of wedlock, the biological father of the child has no rights at all to the child until he petitions the courts for legitimation. It doesn't matter if his name is on the birth certificate. Feel free to contact my office for further consultation on the matter.
