Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Parents trying to get custody..

Me (17) and my g/f (15) just found out she was 3 weeks pregnent. Her mom and step dad are saying they are going to get custody of the child and not let me see him, but have me pay child support. Me and my g/f planned on staying togeather and I was going to support her and the child the best I could, along with some help from my parents. Is there a chance her parents can do that to me, even if my g/f is totaly aginst it? I read online that I have no legal rights as the father cause the child was born out of wedlock. Could I file a Paternity Suit asking the Court to declare me to be the legal father, before the child is born?

Thanks

Re: Parents trying to get custody..

You might have a bit of a prediciment but it can worked through. If you marry the mother, you would be considered the legal father. Barring that, you would can file to legitmate the child with the court and then you would be the legal father.

Your girl friends parents could petition the juveile court to declare the child deprived if you are not able adequately provide for the child. (Housing, stable employment, and such stuff) They could get an order granting them custody for two years or until such time as the depricvation issues are satisfied.
