Paying Someone Else's Legal Fees

Can someone other than the parties involved pay the legal fees for the plantiff for a contested divorce? If so, can this person pay anonymously?

Re: Paying Someone Else's Legal Fees

In a contested divorce there will be a discovery phase where all the information concerning things like this may come out. The Plaintiff may argue that this is irrevelant and it may be and fight to disclose that information, but if the person has a close personal and intimate relationship with the plaintiff it's probably not irrevelant and will have to be disclosed. So to answer your question, I would have to say that the name of the benefactor would probably come out at some point during the proceedings. It would be up to the other evidence to prove the relationship and would effect it had on the issues involved.

Re: Paying Someone Else's Legal Fees

I wouldn't have a problem with someone assisting my client with legal bills, but I would refuse to handle a case where I didn't know the identity of the payor.

As another attorney noted, the identity might also be subject to discovery.
