Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Would like to know the proper steps in having my new husband adopt my children. Living in Scottdale, GA. Ex-husband lives in Alabama and is possibly in prison. He's had no contact with the children since 2006. I have sole custody. New husband and I will be married for one year on July 24th, 2011.

The first step is to get a lawyer (feel free to call me as you are fairly near my office) experienced in adoptions. The father will either need to consent or be served and you will need to do some legwork to locate him.

Adoptions require a lot of paperwork and patience, but with a good attorney they tend to produce a happy result in just a few months.
