Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

property laws

I live in georgia what are my rights to property owned by my husband that was aquired after we married. He says it has nothing to do with me. I have nothing in it. How can this be true when I have worked all but roughly 4 years of the 23 years we have been together. The property that is in his name only is in Alabama and Tennessee.

Re: property laws

Your question cannot be answered without more details that an attorney would obtain from you. If you are asking your questions because you anticipate that the property will be the subject of a legal dispute between yourself and your spouse, then you really need to hire an attorney to assist you. The fact that the property is located in several states makes this even more crucial.

Re: property laws

Your husband is lying to you, which is not unexpected in such situations.

Assuming you are Georgia residents, ALL property you acquire or he acquires during a marriage, with very few exceptions, is marital property, subject to division by a court.

You should obtain legal counsel as soon as possible, and not get your legal advice from your spouse.
