Question about custody of non-related children

I know of girls in GA that are not being taken care of properly; ages 14 & 15. I am in Iowa. Their parents had joint custody for the last 7 years or so, with the girls deciding who they wished to live with. They bounced back and forth between parents for the majority of this time. They now reside with their father, the mother has no interest in regaining physical custody. The girls are running wild in the streets, have been in trouble with the law, and are generally not being cared for in the proper way. I know my chances are slim to none, but do I have a chance to get these custody of these girls? I've contacted the DSS in their area, but no action was taken. I really don't want them to go into foster care or a jail environment.

You've done what you can but you do not have a dog in this fight as the saying goes. What's your basis for thinking you could get custody?

You can apply for either guardianship or adoption in the county of their residence in GA. These processes are too complicated to address in this type of format. You should consult with an attorney where the kids live. You might try posting your question at www.lawguru.com where it will be directed to attorneys in that area.
